Basic Printing

Enter the Start menu by clicking on the Start icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, and begin typing in “printers”. Then, select “Printers & scanners”.

In the window that opens up, select “Add a printer or scanner” at the top of the list of currently installed printers.

_images/image_16.png

Your device will attempt to search for devices on the network, which you can ignore. Wait for 5-10 seconds, and select “The printer that I want isn’t listed” at the bottom of the list.

_images/image_25.png

In the next window that pops up, select the “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” option, and click Next.

_images/image_34.png

Next, type in the hostname of the printer. The hostname, for most networked printers, should be on a label adhered to the front or top of the printer. If the hostname doesn’t have a domain after it, you will need to add it (The domain is structured as follows: SiteInitials.lvusd.org - Ex. lvdo.lvusd.org). Then hit Next.

If your computer finds the printer drivers, you can continue on to the Printer Name page. If not, you will need to use Windows Update to find drivers. The window that appears for driver installation should have two columns. On the left, select the Manufacturer of the printer (ie. HP, Dell, Brother, etc). On the right, scroll through and find the Model of your printer (ie. (HP)Laserjet P1505, (Dell)B2360dn, etc).

Next, type in a name for the printer. Make it something easy to recognize so you can find it easily in a list. Hit Next.

When asked about Printer Sharing, make sure to select the “Do not share this printer” option. Hit Next.

Now your printer should be all setup. On the final screen you can choose to print a test page, or simply complete the process by clicking on Finish.
